How to Receive a Fair and Accurate Moving Quote

Local Movers in Fort Worth

If you’re wondering how to receive fair and accurate quotes from the best Fort Worth movers, you’ve come to the right place. Rates for moving services depend on various factors, such as the scope of services, equipment, vehicles, and other specifications requested. Don’t pay extra for services you don’t need. Make sure you receive a fair and accurate quote from local Fort Worth movers. Here’s how:

Be Specific

When asking for a quote from local Fort Worth Movers, you need to be as specific as possible. What exactly is it you need from the moving company? Do you need movers to help you finish packing, provide you with moving supplies, carry your furniture down several flights of stairs, or a truck with distinct features? The more specific you are the more accurate your quote will be.

Shortlist Reputable Moving Companies

Look for the best Fort Worth moving companies that have a good reputation and positive reviews. This way, you know you’ll get a fair and accurate moving quote. Find feedback on local Fort Worth movers by either visiting their official websites or going through their social media pages. You can even read reviews on online forums.

Contact Local Fort Worth Movers

You can’t go wrong with contacting some of the best local Fort Worth moving companies. Unlike large nationwide moving companies, local movers are especially community-oriented and always provide fair and accurate estimations to their customers. Your quote will include realistic prices for moving services you actually need and will use. Forget about silly surcharges or pointless upgrades.

Get an Assessment in Person

Many moving companies have online contact forms where you can fill in some details about your move and receive a quote as a response. Although these forms are convenient for both movers and customers, the estimation isn’t always 100% accurate. Quotes are based on the size of the space, the amount of furniture and items you have, the travel distance, and other minor specifications. To avoid inaccurate quotes, call Forth Worth movers to visit your house and assess the details of your move in person. This way they can provide you with a much fairer and precise quote.

Ask for Individual Prices

When receiving a quote, make sure you always ask for the prices of each individual service. This way moving services are completely transparent and you can see exactly what you’re paying for. Also, don’t forget to read the fine print and confirm which moving services are included in the quote. Only pay for what you use and nothing more.

Tips for Packing Electronics

Confirm Payment Method

Make sure you confirm the payment method in advance. Is it based on an hourly rate or flat rate? Do you need to provide an upfront payment or not? Get into the details so you get a fair and accurate quote.

9 Simple Ways to Make a New House Feel Like Home

Make a New House Feel Like Home

Home is where the heart is – or so they say. But what if your heart is just not into it? Sure, you’re excited about your new house, but no matter how hard you try it just doesn’t have that cozy, homey feel to it. Don’t be a stranger in your own home. Here are 9 simple ways to make your new house feel more like home.

Redecorate with Loved Ones

Okay, so the boxes have arrived. Now what? It’s time to unpack, of course. Don’t look at unpacking and redecorating as a dreaded task but rather as a moment to bond with your family in your new home. Think of it as putting up a Christmas tree. It’s a family effort that brings everyone closer together.

Go Grocery Shopping

When you move to a new house, you’re usually welcomed by an empty fridge. No one should have to endure this sad sight. Go grocery shopping and restock your fridge and cupboard space with all the essentials. Having the right ingredients for your favorite meal on hand is a great way for a house to feel less like a hotel and more like home.

Follow Your Everyday Routine

Just because you’ve moved to a different house doesn’t mean you should change your daily routine. Continue doing things as usual. For instance, if you enjoy morning runs around the block then there’s no need to put this routine on hold just because you’ve relocated.

Get Nice and Comfy

At the end of the day, nothing will make a house feel more like home than the smell of clean sheets, the sight of soft pillows, and the touch of a gentle mattress. It’s important to feel comfortable in your new house and the bedroom is a pretty good place to start getting comfy.

Buy Scented Candles

Buy scented candles and place them throughout the house. The sweet smell of berries or citrus will make your house a pleasure to be in.

Play Music

What better way to feel at home than listening to some of your favorite tunes. Playing music in your new house can instantly make it feel more welcoming.

Take a Stroll around the Neighborhood

Get to know your new neighborhood by doing a bit of sightseeing. Visit nearby cafes and restaurants or attend a community event. This is a great way to meet your neighbors, see where locals hang out and adjust to your new home.

Hang Up Some Family Photos

A home wouldn’t be a home if you didn’t have any family photos on display around the house. Put photos on the walls, on your nightstand, or even on your fridge. Just one look at these photos and you’ll feel right at home.

Repaint the Walls

Add a personal touch to your new house by repainting the walls. Use vibrant colors to create a positive vibe or a plain white to create a serene atmosphere. It’s up to you. If you’re renting and the landlord doesn’t allow you to repaint the walls, buy some wallpaper that matches your style and get busy.

Tips on Ensuring Your Fragile or Valuable Items Are Safe When Moving

Moving and Storage in Fort Worth

Does the thought of damage to your most precious goods during your move send shivers down your spine? It’s understandable. Whether it’s an item of sentimental or monetary value the thought of it being lost or damaged is devastating. But there are ways to ensure your fragile and valuable items remain safe during the entire moving process. Here are several ways to keep your possessions safe in Fort Worth:

Make an Inventory

The first thing you need to do is make an inventory of items that are fragile or valuable. This way you know exactly how many packing supplies and tools you need in order to transport items safely. An easy way to keep track of your valuables and breakables is to make a checklist listing all the items matching the description.  It’s also handy to take photos or videos of these items to make sure there is no change in their condition before and after the move.

Store Valuables in a Safe Deposit Box

The most secure way to keep your most valuable possessions such as jewelry, heirlooms, and documents is to store them in a safe deposit box. You can get a storage box at your local Fort Worth bank for a small fee. Depending on the bank, you can keep your valuables for safeguarding for as much or as little as you want. Just remember not to leave anything that you would need immediately after or during the move.

Valuable Items Are Safe

Take Valuables with You

If you simply don’t trust anyone with your valuables and don’t want to rent a safe deposit box then the next best thing is to take smaller valuables with you.

Pack Your Items Carefully

Moving and Storage in Fort Worth

There are a lot of helpful moving tips that you can try out to keep fragile items intact. Use extra bubble wrap or padding to ensure items don’t get damaged while in transit. Also, make sure to label each box containing breakables “FRAGILE”. This way, professional movers will know to take added precautions when loading and unloading these boxes.

Buy Proper Packing Materials

Keep your valuable and fragile items safe by equipping yourself with the proper supplies. Stock up on the right sized containers, boxes, paper wrap, and bubble wrap.

Get Insurance

If you want to be absolutely certain you don’t suffer any financial loss during your move you should take out an insurance policy. This is the most effective way to ensure your items will be replaced or at least financially accounted for.

Hire a Fort Worth Moving Company

What better way to ensure your fragile and valuable items are safe than to hire a local moving company. 17 Helpful Moving Tips Everyone Should Know

Helpful Moving Tips

Are you planning to move? That’s awesome! Well, until reality hits and you actually have to start with moving preparations, such as packing. Here are 17 moving tips that everyone should know – including you!

  1. Pack an overnight bag

The chances that you unpack your things the first day of your move is highly unlikely. So it’s best to pack an overnight bag. Include all your essentials, such as a change of clothes, toiletries, and some medicine.

  1. Pack basics in clear plastic bins

You want to have easy access to some home basics from the get-go. Pack items such as kitchen utensils, cookware, extension cords, trash bags, towels, cleaning supplies, and a utility knife in clear plastic bins for practicality.

  1. Add handles to your boxes

Cut triangle-shaped holes on the sides of each box to create handles. This way you can move boxes around much easier.

  1. Use soft items as padding and space fillers

Use pillows, blankets, towels, and soft toys as padding to protect fragile items or use them as space fillers.

  1. Wrap breakables in clothes

Save money on bubble wrap by wrapping your kitchenware, vases, frames, and other breakables in clothes.

  1. Color code boxes by room

Label each box with a color specific to the room it belongs to. This way you know exactly where each box goes without even reading the list of contents.

  1. Label the side of the box, not the top

Boxes usually get stacked on top of each other, making it difficult to read the labels. Label the sides of the box so labels are always visible.

  1. Defrost your refrigerator before moving day

Don’t just unplug your fridge on the day of your move. Defrost and clean your refrigerator at least 24 hours before moving otherwise you risk getting other pieces of furniture wet.

  1. Clean and fix things before you move in

Clean your new home and do any minor renovations before you bring in your belongings. You don’t want to think about cleaning and sealing that drafty window while unpacking all those boxes, do you?

  1. Use masking tape to keep mirrors in place

Form an X with masking tape and put it on your mirrors and glass frames. This will prevent the glass from falling out of the frame in case it is gets damaged during transportation.

  1. Place cotton in your powder cosmetics

Keep your makeup safe and in one piece by placing a piece of cotton or a cotton pad inside the packaging.

  1. Cover your toiletries with plastic wrap

Use plastic wrap to cover the openings of shampoos, conditioners, lotions, perfumes, etc. This will prevent them from leaking.

  1. Take a picture of your cords

Save yourself the trouble of figuring out where each cord goes by taking a picture before you disconnect them from your electronic devices. It’ll take you just a few seconds but can save you lots more.

  1. Put clothes on hangers in garbage bags

Simply cover the clothes with a garbage bag from the bottom up and they’re ready to be hanged in your new closet. No need to waste precious time taking clothes off hangers and then putting them back on.

  1. Vacuum seal seasonal clothes

Vacuum seal bags ensure your seasonal clothes take up less space and require less time to pack. Also, you can just put them away in your new home and not even think about them until the next change of season.

  1. Organize bits and pieces using zip lock bags

It’s easy to lose small screws, bolts, and random bits and pieces. To avoid this, keep them safe inside zip lock bags. You can even stick them to their corresponding piece of furniture and add labels.

  1. Pack boxes and furniture densely in the moving truck

Make sure everything is tightly fitted into the truck before departure. This will prevent items from shuffling around and getting damaged.  You will never get a better opportunity to put those Tetris skills to the test!

Moving Tips : How to Safely Pack and Move Plates

How to Safely Pack and Move Plates

Plates are one of those household items you need to take extra care of when moving. They’re extremely fragile and can easily break during packing and moving. Here are some friendly tips to safely pack and move plates.

What you’ll need:

  • Medium-sized boxes
  • Sheets of paper (newspaper works great)
  • Foam plates
  • Sticky tape
  • Bubble wrap
  • Clothes and towels

Cushion the inside of the box

Scrunch up some paper and place it on the bottom of the box, creating a soft bed for the plates. The crumpled paper absorbs the shock of transportation more efficiently. Don’t hesitate to use up your old newspapers. You’ll need about 6” of paper to get the box nice and soft.

Place plates in boxes vertically

To avoid turning your expensive dishes into shards of china, one of the best packing techniques is to place the plates vertically inside the box. This reduces the pressure put on plates when stacked on top of each other.

Wrap each plate in padding

Keep your plates safe by individually wrapping plates in bubble wrap. You can always trust this padding to do an excellent job protecting your plates from any damage. If you don’t want to waste money on bubble wrap then using clothes and towels as padding is a great solution.

Put foam plates in between plates

Another secure way to safely pack and move your plates is by purchasing some foam plates and placing one in between each plate. This simple hack will keep your plates in place and prevent them from clanking into one other.

Pack boxes lightly

You don’t have to fit all your plates in one box. It’s better to use multiple boxes so that they weigh less and chances that the bottom will split open are closer to nil. Fill in any empty space with some soft items, such as socks, scarves, or soft toys.

Stack fragile boxes on top of heavier boxes

Your plates are mostly at risk during the actual move. So make sure you load the boxes containing the plates correctly. Stack the fragile boxes on top of less fragile boxes. This way the plates won’t be at risk of getting crushed during transport.

Fill a bucket instead of a box

Buckets work as great containers when it comes to plates. They are sturdy, secure, and are a tight fit for plates. This means plates have less room to move and break during transportation. Oh, and the fact that the bottom won’t give way is an extra bonus. To ensure even greater plate safety, add some padding or foam plates between plates.

Mark boxes as ‘fragile’

Always label boxes containing plates as ‘fragile’, either with a sticker or using a marker to write it down. When loading and unloading the truck, movers will know to take extra care moving those particular boxes.

15 Incredible Moving Tips That Will Save Your Time and Money

15 Incredible Moving Tips That Will Save Your Time and Money

Want to move without spending too much time packing or breaking the bank? There are various things you can do to make moving easier and less stressful. Here are 15 moving tips that will save you time and money. Be smart and pay attention.

  • Goodbye bubble wrap, hello phone book!

There’s absolutely no need for you to spend money on bubble wrap when you can get something just as effective for free – a phone book, for instance. You know, those big books that no one uses anymore. Well, their time to shine has finally come! Wrap your breakables using the paper to keep them from damage during moving. If you don’t have a phone book, that’s fine. Use a newspaper instead.

  • Get boxes for free

It’s quite silly to pay for boxes. Well, unless you’re really keen on spending your hard-earned cash, but I highly doubt that. Find boxes for free by going to your local grocery store.  Ask the staff to set aside some boxes for you the next time they receive stock and go back to pick them up.

If you prefer to search online for free boxes, visit Craigslist. They have a whole category dedicated to free stuff. It’s pretty exciting!

  • Organize a garage sale

Get rid of all the things you don’t need by organizing a garage sale. Not only will you free up some space in your new home but you will also earn some money while you’re at it. Sounds pretty nice, doesn’t it?

  • Pack your kitchen first

Kitchens usually take the longest to pack so you definitely want to start packing from there. Wrap your breakables in paper to keep them safe during the move.

  • Take a photo of connected cables

There is nothing that takes more time than reconnecting all your electronic devices. Save yourself the time and trouble by taking a picture with your phone for quick reference.

  • Color-coordinate boxes by rooms

Use different colored tape to label boxes according to which room they belong to. This will save you a lot of time when unloading and unpacking the boxes. By color-coordinating boxes, they can directly be put in the correct room.

  • Label the side of the box

Most commonly, our first instinct is to label the top of the box. However, you should label the side of the box instead. Why? Well, because boxes are usually stacked on top of each other, making it difficult or even impossible to see labels put on top.

  • List box contents

No, you don’t have to write up a whole essay. Two-three words are enough. Just a brief description of what’s inside each box will make unpacking a whole lot easier and more productive.

  • Pack a first-day pack

Place all the things you will need on the first day of your move including a change of clothes, personal hygiene products, plastic plates, etc.

  • Cover liquids in plastic wrap

Avoid liquids spilling on other items by sealing off the opening with some plastic wrap. Even if you don’t think something will spill – wrap it! You don’t want to spend money cleaning your new carpet, do you?

  • Compress seasonal clothes

Put all your out-of-season clothes into a vacuum-sealable bag to save some space. Besides, you won’t need this stuff anytime soon which means you have more time to unpack more important things.

  • Bundle up silverware in plastic wrap

Keep your silverware together by wrapping the entire tray in plastic wrap. This way you don’t have to take out your forks and knives and put them back inside again.

  • Put cables in empty toilet paper rolls

Organize your cables by putting each in an empty toilet paper roll. This means you won’t have to spend time untangling cables. Don’t forget to label each roll so you know what each cable is for.

  • Cut triangle-shaped holes in boxes

Carrying and moving boxes can be quite difficult. Cut holes on each side of the box in the shape of a triangle to form handles. This allows you to have a better grip on the box and makes it easier to carry. Remember to cut the holes at least three inches from the top.

  • Get in touch with professional movers

It’s easy to lose your head when moving. All that packing, loading, moving and unpacking can take its toll, especially if you decide to go solo. Moving Hacks And Tips You Must Know

Moving Hacks And Tips You Must Know

Is moving day approaching? Chances are you’ve got a huge to-do list that isn’t getting any shorter. Don’t panic. Here are some moving hacks and tips that will save you money and take all the hustle and bustle out of moving.

Pack first day essentials

Unbelievable as it may seem, unpacking is actually more difficult than getting everything neatly boxed up. It’s the real moment of truth. Did the bubble wrap do its job?  Are the plates all in one piece? Did you forget something? Other than getting everything off the truck you probably won’t have time to do much else, let alone begin to unpack all the boxes.

For this reason, it’s important to pack a first-day box/bag/bin with all the essentials you need to get you through the day. You don’t really want to rifle through boxes looking for toilet paper, do you? Here’s a basic list of things your ‘first-day pack’ should include:

  • Trash bags
  • Toilet paper
  • Paper towel
  • Paper bags and cups
  • Disposable cutlery
  • Shampoo and soap
  • Change of clothes

Don’t pay for boxes

There are many places you can get boxes for free. Begin by hopping on to your local Craigslist. Enter “moving boxes” in the “free stuff” section. You’ll find all the boxes you want and a lot of other freebies, too.

An even more efficient strategy for free box hunting is to drive down to your local supermarket and ask the staff if they have any empty boxes to spare. Most stores restock daily so there’s bound to be some empty boxes somewhere in the back.

Extra tip: When you go to pick up the boxes make sure you take a box cutter along with you. It’s more than likely the boxes are still assembled and will need to be collapsed.

Protect your makeup

Are you so attached to your makeup you fear for its safety? Cotton pads are here to save the day. Simply put a cotton pad inside the packaging and your makeup will have a layer of cushioned shield.

Keep liquids from spilling

Prevent liquids such as shampoos, lotions, and shower creams from spilling by covering the opening of the packaging with clear wrap and then sealing it with the lid. Simple, yet effective.

Put your glasses in socks

Yes, this may sound a little strange but it works. Place individual glasses in a sock and place it in a box. Rest assured that no glasses will be harmed during your move.

Place foam plates between plates

Buy a pack (or two) of disposable foam plates and put them in between plates when packing. This will prevent plates from battering against each other and causing damage. The foam plates act as an extra layer of soft protection. Plus, foam plates are pretty cheap, so it’s a small investment that can save you a new set of china.

Use window cleaner to move appliances

Your appliances won’t budge an inch? No problem. Spray a bit of window cleaner at the feet of appliances and slowly push. You will notice it slide across the floor with greater ease.

Cover your dining set with bedding

This is probably the only time kitchens and bedrooms are a good combination. Use an old fitted bed sheet to cover your dining table and pillowcases to cover your chairs. This will ensure your dining set remains scratch-free.

Extra tip: Remove the legs of tables to free up some space for other items.

Are you ready to move?

6 Killer Tips That Make Packing and Moving Easier

6 Killer Tips That Make Packing and Moving Easier

Although the idea of moving and starting a new chapter of your life may sound exciting, the daunting task of packing and moving your belongings can be quite overwhelming. In fact, the thought of boxes, sticky tape, and bubble wrap is intimidating enough.

Do you have enough boxes? Did you mark the fragile items? Will your furniture squeeze through the doors?

I think you get the picture. Moving isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Thankfully, we have 6 killer tips up our sleeves that make packing and moving easier. So first things first:

  1. Do you ACTUALLY need to move?

And by ‘need’ I don’t mean relocating just because you can’t stand your neighbors. You need to have solid reasons for moving. Here are some key questions you should ask yourself before making the big decision to move to a different place:

  • Can I afford the cost of living there?
  • Is the location right for me?
  • Does it have the necessary amenities?
  • Do the benefits outweigh the downsides?
  • Will this move make me happier?

If you answered yes to most of these questions, then you’ve definitely thought things through.

  1. Don’t spend money on boxes

Moving is expensive as it is. There’s absolutely no need to spend money on moving supplies that you can easily get for free, such as boxes.

Find free boxes at your local grocery stores. They usually receive stock daily so they have a good supply of boxes sitting around waiting to be recycled. Surely, they’ll be more than happy to give them to you. Plus, they are often a small-medium size which means they will be easier to shift around once full. Just make sure you ask the staff in advance so they can put the empty boxes aside for you to pick up.

Bonus tip: Cut triangle-shaped holes on the side of each box to create handles. This way you can move your boxes around without worrying about losing your grip.

  1. Sell items you don’t need

No good can come from hoarding, especially if you’re downsizing. You essentially end up keeping things you most probably will never need or use. So the smartest thing to do is sell these items.

You can sell your old treasures online on Craigslist, AptDeco, or eBay. If you prefer something simpler, organize a garage sale. Who said moving is all about spending?

  1. Color-code each box

Label each box with a color specific to the room it belongs to. This will make it easier for movers to put boxes in the correct room and makes unpacking much less stressful for you. It’s also a good idea to keep tabs on what each box contains by writing up a list of contents or taking some photos.

Bonus tip: Put labels on the top and on the sides of boxes in case they are stacked on top of each other.

  1. Pack an overnight bag

It’s highly unlikely you’ll get everything unpacked on the first day of your move. Make sure you pack an overnight bag with all the essentials to get you through the day. This includes a change of clothes, toiletries, and some medicine.

  1. Get professionals to do the moving for you

You don’t want to scratch those freshly polished hardwood floors, do you? Of course not. That’s why professional movers have an advantage over DIY movers. They know exactly how to load, move, and carry each piece of furniture without causing damage to your belongings or your home. It’s a small investment that can make your whole move a lot easier.

The Homeowner’s Guide to Packing and Transporting Fragile Items

The Homeowner’s Guide to Packing and Transporting Fragile Items

When it comes to packing and transporting fragile items, all that homeowners need to demonstrate is a bit of patience and a light hand. Of course, Invoke Moving, the premier moving company in Forth Worth,  is available for consideration if you would rather not do this job yourself. But if you have made a firm decision to pack and transport fragile items, all you will need is:

  • Quality boxes (various sizes)
  • Packing paper
  • Pliable cardboard
  • Bubble wrap
  • A pair of scissors
  • Packing tape

Plates made of china or glass should be packed in a vertical manner, using small to medium-sized boxes. Remember to line the boxes with crumpled packing paper on the bottom and top, after placing the plates. Each plate should be wrapped in bubble wrap and secured with packing tape.

There must be a piece of paper placed in between each standing plate, and the box shouldn’t be over-packed.

Glasses tend to be even more fragile than plates. Hence extra care needs to be taken when packing each individual item wrapped with packing paper and placed carefully inside the box. To decrease the empty spots inside the box, place crumpled paper inside the large pieces. The heaviest items should be placed at the bottom of the box, followed by the lighter pieces.

Specialty Items

For packing specialty items or heirloom decoration pieces that you would rather see in one piece at the end of the move, consider the size and shape of each item. The other things to consider are handles or protruding pieces that could break (if any).

Thereafter, wrap the item completely with bubble wrap and tape. Place the item on a piece of pliable cut cardboard. After that, place another piece of cardboard on top of the item and bend the ends carefully. Make sure to secure the ends with a lot of tapes.  To prepare the item for transportation, wrap it entirely in bubble wrap and secure it tightly with the tape.

The last step is to place the items inside the paper-lined box (that should be rough of the same size as the item), fill gaps with crumpled paper, seal the box with tape and write “FRAGILE” in big, bold letters on the box.

Don’t forget to inform the movers about the items that are in each box. This small detail will ensure that your fragile items arrive at the new destination in one piece.
